Dear J,

Your mother has an excellent sense of smell. So it's always been a point of frustration as to why I couldn't smell you.

Everyone always talks about "that baby smell" and I almost convinced myself I smelled it. Until I realized I couldn't. Sure, I got whiffs of spit up and dirty diapers but never that smell.

Then, last night when I was feeding you in the dark, your eyes closed and your hand clenching my pajama shirt, I realized why. It's because we are the same. We smell the same.

Love,
Mom
