Gone

the phone call in the middle of the night

spurts of memory and everything else gone
that full crock pot for dinner the next night in our apartment in LA
what did we do with those half-cooked beans
(can you put them directly into the fridge while still hot -
I’m so young I don’t even know how crock pots work
no time to look it up)
what did we talk about on the drive
did I fall asleep or did my aunt call again
where did we go first:
the hospital or my mom’s house
what did we do that whole week before the funeral -
all a blur.
